What you get
The template is a normal GitHub repo. It has these folders:
wiki/holds the pages.wiki/index.mdis the front door.inbox/holds the updates that agents leave.receipts/holds what the librarian did with each update.prompts/holds prompts you give to agents.librarian/holds the commands. They need only Python. Nothing to install.
The starter pages are empty on purpose. They say "unverified" until a real source backs them up.
Keep it private
Your brain will hold real facts about your company. Make it a private repo. Never push your facts to the public template. The configure command refuses to run if your copy still points at the public repo.
Set it up
- Open the template on GitHub. Click Use this template, then Create a new repository.
- Pick your name from module 1. Set it to Private. Click Create repository.
- Clone your new repo to your computer.
- In the repo folder, run the configure command with your company name and an owner ID. The owner ID is lowercase, with dashes, such as
jane-doe. - Run the two checks. Both must pass.
- Give your agent the prompt below. It reads your sources and fills the first pages.
- Read the pull request it opens. Merge it when the facts look right.
The commands for steps 3 to 5:
git clone https://github.com/YOUR-ORG/acme-brain.git
cd acme-brain
python -m librarian configure --company "Acme" --owner "jane-doe"
python -m librarian validate
python -m unittest discover -s tests -vThe prompt
Paste this to an agent that can open your sources. Fill in the parts in angle brackets first.
Set up my private company brain. It is at <your private repo URL>, cloned at <folder path>.
It was made from the public template https://github.com/Ducktate/the-librarian.
Rules:
- Never push anything to the public template repo.
- Do not make up facts. Every fact needs a source you actually opened.
- If you cannot check something, do not guess. Write it down as an open question.
- Ask me only for things you cannot find yourself.
Steps:
1. Read START-HERE.md, docs/OPERATING-POLICY.md and docs/AGENT-PROCEDURE.md.
2. Check that configure has run: librarian.json should show my company name, not "Your Company".
3. Read these sources: <list your repos, docs and tools>.
4. Fill in the starter pages under wiki/. Give each fact its source and today's date.
Keep pages short. Link to the source for details.
5. For each thing you could not check, add an open question. Say who must answer it,
what proof would settle it, and a follow-up date.
6. Run `python -m librarian validate` and `python -m unittest discover -s tests -v`.
7. Commit on a new branch, push it, and open a pull request. Do not merge it.
Report back: the pull request link, the pages you filled, the check results, and the open questions. You are done when
- Your brain is a private repo with its own GitHub address.
- Both checks pass.
- You merged one pull request of real, sourced pages.
Next module
Module 3 gives every agent the same rules, from one file.
Talk to Claude instead of typing to it.
Ducktate turns what you say into clean text, on your Mac, and pastes it anywhere.
