Is your meeting notetaker a bot in the call?

Some meeting notetakers join your call as their own visible participant, sometimes needing to be let in from a waiting room, and send the recording off to their own servers. Others run quietly on your own device and never show up in the meeting at all. Answer seven quick questions about your own setup and find out which one you are dealing with.

How to read your answers

Each "yes" is a signal that the notetaker is behaving like a visible bot sitting in your call rather than something that runs quietly in the background. A majority of "yes" answers points toward bot-based capture. The point is not to shame any tool, it is to make it obvious to yourself which pattern you are actually using, since most people never stop to check.

Bot-based capture is not automatically bad. Some teams want a shared, official presence in the meeting. But it does mean a company you do not otherwise deal with directly can end up holding a copy of the conversation, and it means every participant can see the notetaker sitting there. On-device capture is the other pattern: nothing joins the call, nothing needs approval from a waiting room, and the audio never has to leave your own computer to become a transcript.

Questions

Does this use my microphone or camera?

No. It is seven yes or no questions you answer about your own setup. It never requests microphone or camera access and never records anything.

Does this tell me what a specific tool actually does?

No. It only reasons about the answers you give about your own current setup. It does not claim to know how any named product behaves, since that can change and can differ by plan or configuration.
